Morocco makes world cup history

 Morocco dashed Portugal and Cristiano Ronaldo’s world cup hopes on Saturday to become the first African country to make it to a World Cup semi-final.

Youssef En-Nesyri, a striker, scored the game-winning goal in the first half. He jumped higher than goalkeeper Diogo Costa and got the ball past him. Al Thumama Stadium went crazy when the goal was scored.


The north African team’s fans filled most of the stadium and cheered wildly as they made their debut on the world stage.

Ronaldo came off the bench in the 50th minute to tie the men’s all-time international match appearance record of 196. But he couldn’t get his team to come back into the game.

Morocco, which will play France in the semi-finals, was happy to play on the counter and scored the first goal right before halftime.
